Accreditation for Work Experience (VAE) : What is it ?
March 29 2022Accreditation for Work Experience (VAE) is not a way of accessing an educational program. Instead, it is a path to earning a degree that does not require applicants to have completed the requisite program of study.
Extract from article L. 613-3 of the French Education Code.“Anyone who can provide proof of an employed or self-employed professional activity or volunteer work, who is registered on the list of top athletes mentioned in the first paragraph of article L. 221-2 of the Sports Code, or who has held an office as a trade union representative or local elected official, whenever these activities have direct ties with the content of the degree or qualification sought, may request accreditation for their experience as provided in article L. 6411-1 of the Labor Code, in order to justify that they possess all or part of the knowledge and skills required to earn a degree or a qualification issued by a higher education institution on the State’s behalf.
The minimum experience required for the accreditation request to be admissible is one year, whether or not the activity has been carried out without interruption. To assess the duration of this period, the authority or institution deciding on the admissibility of the request provided for in article L. 6412-2 of the same code may take into consideration activities mentioned in the first article of this article, as well as periods of initial or continuing education in a professional environment, with or without interruption.”
VAE must involve a degree, a qualification, or a certificate of vocational education included in the National Directory of Recognized Diplomas (RNCP).
