Young Graduate Survey 2022
The survey was conducted between December 2021 and March 2022 across AgroParisTech’s three most recent graduating classes (2019, 2020, and 2021) in the Engineering program. In total, 1,174 surveys were sent for a total of 910, amounting to an average response rate of 77.5%..
Situation in February 2022 for the Class of 2021 and as of December 1, 2021, for the Classes of 2020 and 2019
As of February 2022, 80% of Class of 2021 engineers were “employed”:
- 64% were pursuing a professional activity;
- 13% were working on a Ph.D.;
- 9% were in further studies;
- 9% were looking for employment;
- 3% were volunteering;
- 2% were in another situation.
As of December 1, 2021, 88% of Class of 2020 engineers were “employed”:
- 71% were pursuing a professional activity;
- 13% were working on a Ph.D.;
- 7% were in further studies;
- 4% were volunteering;
- 3% were looking for employment;
- 2% were in another situation.
As of December 1, 2021, 94% of Class of 2019 engineers were “employed”:
- 75% were pursuing a professional activity;
- 16% were working on a Ph.D.;
- 4% were looking for employment;
- 3% were volunteering;
- 1% were in further studies;
- 1% were in another situation.
Sectors and Organizations Which Are Recruiting
Sectors hiring graduates cover a wide range; the top five sectors for the three combined classes are:
- consulting firms and service companies (21%);
- agrifood (13%);
- professional agricultural organizations (11%);
- public and private higher education and research (9%);
- government (9%).
Compensation
Salaries differ according to the type of company, sector of activity, and position held. The highest salaries are paid by private companies, infrastructure and network operators (electricity, water, internet access, and waste), consulting firms/service companies, the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, and employers hiring graduates for positions in administration and management, purchasing and logistics, expert appraisals, and certification.
Characteristics of Employment
For graduates pursuing a professional activity, upon leaving engineering school, 59% of young engineers hold a position with a permanent contract, 6% are civil servants, and 34% have a fixed-term contract. However, 24 months after graduating, 77% have a permanent contract, 4% are civil servants, and 19% have a fixed-term contract.
Geographical Location
Of the employed graduates from all of the graduating classes combined, 43% are based in the Greater Paris region, 50% are in other French regions, and 6% are working abroad.
