Studying the challenges of water in the face of climate change
March 10 2025Students on the “Water Sciences” Master’s course at the Montpellier campus went on a study trip to the Netherlands to explore the challenges of water management and climate change and to exchange views with local experts.
The Master’s in “Water Sciences” trains its students to understand the issues related to water and the biophysical, socio-economic and organizational aspects of research. The course provides them with skills in the management of water and rural environments for agriculture and the environment, as well as in the quantitative and qualitative management of water resources and their uses.
This study trip, held last February, gave students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the issues related to water management and climate change by visiting key sites and engaging with local experts in a country where water management differs from our own. In particular, they were able to address the subject of polders, these artificial areas of land reclaimed from the water that could be an adoptable solution for the Netherlands to protect itself from rising sea levels.
